vintage obi

wow new pouches and such on the way :)

i decided to wash two obi.

the first one was great. a bit of color bleed but its fine and bright. drying and going to turn into beautiful pouches. the second one....this is terrible. i think it might be a maru obi? gosh i dont know, it's really old. i washed not gently enough the material seemed to be degrading and it was soooooooo grimy.
great i go searching for what designs and such from what period and i think its from the 1900-1920's. i cant belive ive ripped it and washed away its gold thread patina. gosh!!!!! its ok. its done. im iron interfacing it on to gauze tho it seems to be double sided tapestry like.. gaaaaa i feel terrible i cant believe how old it might possibly be and to think it was swimming in the tub.... im not washing the others till ive fused them with another fabric interfacing.
taking apart the obi theres a thick canvas like material inside which is quite nice as well, just as canvas...maybe simes could use it...
i cant believe i washed and ripped it. aaaaaa!
